Pharmacological properties
Megestrol acetate is a synthetic progestogen that affects the hypothalamic-pituitary system of the animal's body, blocking the secretion of gonadotropic hormones (follicle-stimulating and luteinizing) by the adenohypophysis. The decrease in the blood levels of these hormones in animals leads to disturbances in the folliculogenesis of females, providing an anti-ovulatory effect on the animal's gonads.
