Pharmacological properties
Pimobendan is a derivative of the compound benzimidazole-pyridazinone, a non-sympathomimetic, non-glycosidic inotropic substance with pronounced vasodilatory properties.
Unlike cardiac glycosides, the positive inotropic effect of pimobendan is due to increased sensitivity to calcium of the myocardial filaments and inhibition of phosphodiesterase III (PDE III) activity.
