Pharmacological properties
Hexamethylenetetramine has the property of decomposing in neutral and weakly acidic environments with the release of formaldehyde and ammonia. The latter exhibits antimicrobial properties, acts moderately diuretic, and has the ability to reduce the barrier activity of cell membranes, which allows toxic substances to easily enter the blood and be excreted from the body during general toxic processes. This action begins after 40 minutes and lasts 6-12 hours.
